Safari Moon (formerly Safari T Shirts) by
artist Maria Moscato started off as wearable
art and play wear for children.
It has now evolved into clothing for women,
yoga wear and a joint venture with
Wrapsody brand baby carriers.
The motifs vary from wildlife, marine life,
insects, mermaids and dinosaurs.
Cross styling fashion is created by combining
various styles like
Chinese calligraphic, primitive pictographs and petroglyphs, tribal tattoos on a
clothing "canvas" that has a different nature (i.e. Indian elephant on kimono romper).
In the batik series these motifs have been creatively applied to clothing in Bali by
artisans under Fair Trade conditions. Each item is hand batiked with color fast dyes
and is considered a handcrafted product and piece of art. Organic cotton from Bali
with vegetable dyes is also available.
Silkscreen on solid colors has been chosen for the Insect series, using American
Apparel and a local silkscreen establishment. This series is sold at the San Diego
Botanical Garden.
